ScarGuard ScarCare comes in a few different 'varieties'... The advantage of this product is that there is a version specifically for darker scars... So if you have really dark and/or red scars, this 'lightener' may work for your scars. Otherwise, the general reviews of ScarGuard were not highly favorable.
Scar Guard Lightener
This particular product is a great ADDITION to a scar cream that works. Scar Guard Lightener is a specially formulated skin lightener used for liver spots, age spots, and can also be used for dark scars as well.
ScarGuard ScarLight MD
The active ingredient in this product is Hydroquinone, which is a skin lightener. Some inactive ingredients include: retinoic acid, melatonin, MSM, BHT, na matabisulfite, arbutin,
cystamine licorice root, dandelion root, hydroxyanisole, ascorbic acid,
hydroxypropycellulose, kojic acid, azelaic acid, acetone, propylene
glycol, ethyl alcohol As with ANY product, make sure to test a small area of your skin to make sure that you will not have an allergic reaction to it. ScarGuard Scarlight MD is a fast absorbing serum that is
clinically proven to lighten darkened skin discolorations, such as dark
(brown) scars, freckles, brown or black undereye circles, blemishes,
liver/age spots, melasma, as well as post-laser and birth control
pigmentation. It is NOT a scar cream, for better results you will have to use a scar cream AND a scar lightener if your scar is dark.
In some cases, the pigment cells (melanocytes),
which are responsible for our skin coloration, are over-active after
injury. This can result in a darkened scar. Scarlight MD is a unique
formulation that combines multiple technologies for lightening skin
discolorations and promoting younger looking skin.
How to Use: Scarlight MD
brushes on clear. Simply rub into darkened area until absorbed.
Scarlight MD leaves no residue on your skin to affect clothing. Apply
twice daily and you will see a visible difference.
Scar Guard Review
ScarGuard ScarCare has 3 active ingredients:
Silicone - the basis of many other scar products, sometimes in
""sheets"" and other times in the form of a liquid. This silicone is
time proven and considered safe and effective in diminishing scars.
Cortisone
- decreases inflammation associated with the scar formation. May also
relieve discomfort associated with irritation and scar formation.
Vitamin E - an oil based vitamin that may have beneficial properties including softening of scars.
Pros of using Scarguard: - Has a line of skin lightening products (must be used with a scar cream) - Easy to use - Good customer service
Cons of using ScarGuard: - Can work better for smaller scars, not larger scars - Takes months to notice results - Didn't work for many
Summary: Some users liked ScarGuard, others didn't like ScarGuard. It's easy to use and their skin lightener is a great addition to a scar removal regimen, however, it may not work for you. And for people that it DID work for, they used it very consistently for at least 2-3 months.
Do we recommend ScarGuard? No. There are better scar creams available now with more than only 3 active ingredients.
